The world's largest manufacturer of two-wheelers, Hero Honda has refreshed its 125cc offering, the Glamour and the Glamour FI. No changes have been done to the engine and are limited to the look of the bike only.
The new additions are eye-catching checkered graphics, attractive aerodynamic shroud, a new muffler cover, new-age trapezoidal headlight, and a stunning new visor with racy graphics and a chiseled front cowl. The remarkable maintenance-free battery ensures peaceful and uninterrupted ride. As usual, the Glamour continues to be priced nicely - at Rs 50,500/- (cast/drum/self, ex-showroom Delhi) and Rs 52,500/- (cast/disc/self, ex-showroom Delhi) and the Glamour FI is at Rs 59,500/- (cast/disc/self, ex-showroom Delhi).

Audi to launch A7 in India on 11th May

Audi is all set to launch its model, the A7 in India on 11 May. A five-door coupe , the car is based on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform. Imported in India as a completely built unit , the car is expected to be priced around Rs. 65 lakhs.

Audi A7 is expected to be launched in both petrol and diesel versions. The 3.0 TFSI Quattro Petrol version of Audi A7 will be powered by a 2995cc engine offering 300 PS of power at 5250-6500 RPM and 440 Nm of torque at 2900-4500 RPM. The other version 3.0 TDI Quattro 6-cylinder Diesel will have a 2967cc engine offering maximum power of 245 PS at 4000-4500 RPM and 500 Nm of torque at 1400-3250 RPM.

Remember Hyosung? It was the same company that gave us, Indians, a chance to own and ride a proper full fledged 250cc motorcycle some years back. The same Korean giant is now back in India with Pune based Garware Motors and will soon be launching the GT650R as well as the ST7 models in India.

To be commercially available from 20th April, the GT650R is a proper sports bike - fully faired and with a powerful 650cc engine. The ST7 on the other hand is a proper Yankee cruiser and comes with a slightly larger capacity engine. It is also the one I would pick from among the two machines.

No pricing has been announced but we feel the GT650R will go on sale for around Rs 4.5 to 5 lakh whereas the ST7 will come with a sticker price of Rs 5 to 5.5 lakh. Fingers crossed till 20th April 2011

Honda VFR1200F and CBR1000RR : Mumbai to Delhi ride - Day 2

While riding to Ahmedabad on day1, it had started drizzling lightly. My last ride on a Superbike on this route (on the Hayabusa) came back to my mind - that time too, rain gods hadnt been kind of me!

By morning, the roads outside the hotel were all wet! We still had over 900km to go to Delhi and reluctantly, we were back on the road. The 245km stretch to Udaipur has its own set of long sweeeping curves. The roads however were wet which meant we had to force ourselves to ride 'slowly' at speeds between 105-110km/h only. At these speeds, a twist of the throttle was all it would take to spin the rear wheel madly!

We stopped for a few pictures whenever the drizzle stopped but eventually before we got to Udaipur, we were shivering to the core. Wind blast on high speeds (when you wet) is bad, very bad! We almost ended up taking a night in Udaipur itself but that would have been a shame for us...

So we contined to Chittorgarh and within a few km had to take shelter in a road side restaurant. The cold was simply too much. A few cups of tea, spicy and hot meals and we decided to ride to Chittorgarh for the night. We had no option but to ride on. The bikes in the meantime, though dirty, were proving to be our companion - they adjusted well, sipping a litre for every 20km. Though the roads were wet, they instilled confidence in us and made us eat the miles slowly but steadily.

370km were all we did that day. It took us around 8 hours for the same - blame this on long and numerous breaks to fight the cold. The bikes wore a mucky look outside in the parking and all our luggage was wet to the bone. What next we asked ourselves...

Honda VFR1200F and CBR1000RR : Mumbai to Delhi ride - Day 1

Riding a full blown motorcycle is one thing. Riding it for over 1400km through congestion, rains, cold and single lane stretches is another.

India is known as the land of commuter motorcycles. Eight out of ten motorcycles on the roads are from the 100-125cc category. Superbike manufacturers have starting showing interest in the Indian market but slowly but steadily, lucky individuals can now catch a glimpse of these in big cities. But, are these only meant for the occasional ride or can they take on long distances as well?

Our aim was simple - pick up two of the best models in the history of Honda and take for a ride - a long one. The bikes were the iconic VFR1200F and the sexy CBR1000RR. The route was a 1450km ride from Mumbai to the capital of India, New Delhi.

Blame it on hitting the bed late, but we managed to get out of Mumbai's mess by 11am. Ahmedabad was roughly 500km and in all probability, it seemed to be our night stop.

Even though we were just an hour and half into the ride, roads like these greeted us once in a while

The first 100-150km out of Mumbai are average. Diversions and lotsa traffic means our average speeds were low. However, past the cut off to Silvassa, things improved.

The VFR1200F which till now felt heavy and lazy suddenly seemed to come in its own. Superb is an understatement for this machine. The CBR1000RR surprisingly was uber comfortable for Bobby Roy Chowdhury, the man also responsible for these pictures.

It took us around 10 hours to cover 520km to Ahmedabad including numerous breaks for photography. Enjoy these photographs from Day 1

Love cruisers? Love naked power monsters? Well, after years of speculation and months of teaser spy photos, Ducati’s first cruiser in a generation was officially announced today, and it may send the most hardened anti-cruiser hecklers into the nearest lifestyle leather facility to get some chaps and conchoes.

This is Ducati’s first cruiser (and by cruiser we mean a motorcycle with exaggerated styling cues like extended wheelbases, lowered seats or other hallmarks of traditional-styled bikes) since the not-so-cool-looking Diana of 1986. “Cruiser” may be the most descriptive category, but maybe we need a new one for bikes like this Diavel, thethe Star VMAX. These machines offer heart-stopping power, sporting handling, bad-boy styling and frequently, customer-limiting pricing and availability. Megabikes? Supercruisers? Roethlisbarges?

Say hello to the new Ducati Diavel - the bike uses a full-honk 162 horsepower, 94 lb.-ft. of torque version of the wonderful 1198cc Testastetta motor called the “11º.” .It’s good for street riders—although it’s down 8 hp and 3 ft.-lbs. of torque from the 1198, Ducati claims it increases bottom-end power delivery and widens the powerband. Interestingly, the EFI is built by Mitsubishi and Mikuni rather than Marelli or Bosch.

It may look like style over substance, but this is a Ducati, so special attention was placed on having a sweet-handling chassis. Most importantly, weight has been kept to a minimum. At just 463 pounds of claimed dry weight (456 for the “Carbon” version), the Diavel is lighter than some newbie-friendly -priced 600cc cruisers I could name. The frame is a chrome-moly trellis bolted to cast-aluminum side plates, much like the current Monster models. The front suspension uses a fully adjustable 50mm inverted Marzocchi fork, and the rear gets held up with a linkage-equipped Sach monoshock. Brakes? None other than what look like the race-ready four-pot Brembo monoblock calipers found on the superbikes. The only things lacking may be cornering clearance—Ducati made the seat as low as possible (30.3 inches), which means lower footpegs. (Ducati videos show the rider coming close to dragging his toes on a spirited street ride) and quick steering, due to a 62.6-inch wheelbase and M-roadster-sized 240-section rear tire (which Ducati claims was specially made for the Diavel to offer phat looks and optimal handling, but sheesh, that’s wide).

The bike looks low, menacing and muscular, and the “Carbon” version, with special lightweight Marchesini wheels, carbon-fiber side panels and headlamp cowling, works even better. The use of plastic is minimized, and interesting details abound, like the billet-look mirror/turn signals, hideaway passenger footpeg/bracket units (a T-shaped grab handle also deploys for passenger comfort), wheel-hub-mounted license-plate bracket and burly handlebar clamp. Not cool enough? How about a TFT color display under the idiot lights? Or forged aluminum wheels? Icing on the cake is 15,000 mile major-service intervals.

Pricing and availability date for the USA or other markets has yet to be announced but expect the MSRP to be about $20,000, $3000 more for the Carbon.

Honda CBR250R unveiled : Coming to India soon

The all new Honda CBR250R is out. It has officially been launched by Honda and here is a low down on the bike.

1. The bike will only be made in two countries - India and Thailand
2. Design theme taken from the VFR250R
3. All new single cylinder 250cc engine
4. Power is around 27-28bhp with 23-24Nm of torque, depending on the country specs
5. Three after market offerings from various companies including Mugen. Expect the kits to up the power to 30-32bhp!

India will get the bike in April 2011.
1. Pricing will be around Rs 1,50,000. In Thailand, it is around 1,00,000 Baht
2. Bike has awesome low end punch in addition to its high speed capabilities
3. I hit 140km/h indicated on the short Bira racing circuit in 5th. I think she will do 155km/h on open roads in 6th
4. Comfy bike with enough space for tall riders
5. Speedo inspired from the VFR
6. In India, it will be offered at 60% less than the Ninja 250R.

World's fastest 125cc!

146.77mph or 236km/h. That's a lot of speed but when you factor in the engine in question, you do feel amazed. A 125cc engine belting out 44bhp helped Scott Kolb pilot a Honda RS125 powered Streamliner to such speeds and in the process set a world record at the Bonneville Salt Flats recently.

Terrafugia flying car - production by end of 2010

The future is here! Remember watching those flying cars in the movies of the 70s and 80s?

Massachusetts-based flying car company Terrafugia is one step closer to putting a road-and-air-going flying car into a reality. A suitable production facility has been located in Woburn, MA and we believe the production could begin within three months. For this Terrafugia will hire 50 skilled workers and extensive testing will begin on two prototypes.

Regardless, we are getting closer to realizing many a young person's dream. A flying car evokes romantic visions of picking up a date then soaring through the clouds. Sure, the styling of the Terrafugia Transition is a cross between a PT Cruiser and a Paul Walker Pep Boys special, and yes, we are also aware that the skies will eventually become clogged with traffic and flying down the Air-405 will be a nightmare. Still, it's not often you get to see a childhood fantasy come to life.

Indian F1 race scheduled for 30th October 2011

Jean-Michel Baron passes away

Jean-Michel, a Dakar competitor has passed away 24 years after his accident. All this while he had been in a vegetative state. The French motorcycle racer was in coma for 24 years following a crash in the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally.
After spending almost a quarter of a century in such a state, Jean-Michel Baron passed away at the age of 56 at his home.

Baron was just 31 years old at the time of the crash; the Frenchman spent several months in hospital before being taken home, where he survived with the help of his dedicated wife, Jocelyne.

May his soul rest in peace!

2011 Triumph Sprint GT revealed

Don't 99% of bikers go in for a Royal Enfield for its thump, the sound of the big single motor? Well, James Hammarhead thinks a little differently. How about replacing the 500cc engine with a, well, an electric motor! Gulp!
Called the Volta 102, it is now powered by a 6 KW lithium iron-phosphate battery pack and an EnerTrac hub motor. The fuel tank now houses two 110-volt, 15-amp chargers that take about 4 hours to recharge the bike.

Performance? The motor makes around 13.4 hp continuous and about 40 hp peak. The original 500cc engine managed around 18 horses. The weight of the Volta is more or less same as the original bike and hence, no surprises that the bike should hit a top whack of around 100miles or 160km/h. Thank god there is front disc brake to stop the heavy lump of metal.

You can have one for, hold your horses, US$ 18500 or around 8,20,000 Indian rupees. No thank you, I did rather go in for a Japanese missile.

I am sure the first thing that comes to your mind after looking at this bike above - another Chinese crap? Errr.. no. This bike is from a company with its roots in Taiwan. Secondly, the company, called Kymco, has been doing pretty decently in various world markets now. I have discussed a lot on their bikes in the past ( see HERE) and here is a brief on the Kymco Pulsar Base 125.

It is powered by a 10bhp 125cc motor - no guesses for speeds. Yes, it maxes out at around 65mph or 105km/h. However, its selling point will be its sticker price, which in the UK will be just 1399 pounds. Dirt cheap for that market.

However, by todays currency 1399 pounds translates into 95,000 Indian rupees. In India here, you can get the following bikes for much lesser amount

1. Bajaj Pulsar 220S

2. Put in 15% more money and take the Yamaha R15

Honda goes green with the EV-Neo

Weird looking scooter or a futuristic concept? Well no.. this is Honda's green baby, the EV-Neo. Production will begin soon and the EV-Neo will initially go on sale, no, lease sale in Japan by the end of this year. But, like most e-bikes out there, this one too has a few limitations. The battery is good enough only for 18 miles which isnt good even for 30km! Top speed is, well, 30km/h. That too on a flat road.

However, knowing Honda, there is for sure a lot more in store for the future - our fingers are crossed!

Robbie Maddison Jumps Over Corinth Canal In Greece

Robbie Maddison does it again! He managed to jump over the 83 meters / 279 feet Corinth Canal in Greece. During the jump, he attained a height of almost 100 meters of 330 feet above the Canal.

The 28 year old Australian daredevil rode his modified Honda 500 through a turn-filled approach past a pool, across a soccer field and past a chicken coop to a speed of 78 mph or 125km/h on Thursday. Maddison has always been known for his jumping events. Previously, in 2007 and 2008 he set three world records for motorcycle distance jumping all the way to 350 feet. On December 31, 2008, he celebrated New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas by jumping up 100 feet onto the Arc de Triomphe in front of Paris Las Vegas and then descended off the monument to ground level. And ofcourse, last year, images of Maddison backflipping the Tower Bridge over the Thames River in London while the drawbridge was open went around the world.

Honda CB Unicorn launched

Motorcycle manufacturers are gearing up to meet the next level of emission norms in India, the Bharat Stage III norms, which come into effect from 1st April.
Honda, in a bid to make the 150cc Unicorn meet these norms has recently made a slight changes, in addition to a few other ones, and named the bike the CB Unicorn.

The Honda CB Unicorn now comes with a Viscous air filter to cut down on maintenance. Further a new color option is also on offer. There has been a slight hike the price as well

Four US bikers dead after truck hits group

Motorcyclists all over the United States are in a shock. A garbage truck, out of control, went and hit a stationary group of motorcycle riders waiting at a red light in Phoenix Arizona. Some eye-witnesses at the spot said that some motorcycles burst into flames while others, along with the riders, were dragged 50 to 75 yards beneath the dump truck. Our deepest condolences with those involved in this tragic mishap.

New Ducati Monster 796

After the launch of the smaller 796 Hypermotard, the Italian firm is now readying a smaller Monster as well. It will essential use the 796cc motor from the Hypermotard and will be announced for the US market next month. It should go on sale in a couple of months from then we believe.

The Monster 796 will be based on the elder Monster 1100 though, sharing the same chassis. We expect the pricing to be under US$10,000 easily.

But why is Ducati doing this? Apart from giving customers an option of a cheaper Monster, it is believed that the bigger Monster 1100 wasnt doing too well in the markets. Watch this space for more!

Medium capacity street and naked bikes are picking up and how. Now, Yamaha has finally officially launched the 800cc FZ8 and the 800cc Fazer8 motorcycles with full specifications.

Essentially the same, the FZ8 is the naked street fighter variant while the Fazer8 will appeal to those looking at some touring as well.

These are powered by 779cc motors belting out 106 horses with 82Nm of torque, decent figures considering the bikes weigh in at around 211-215 kilos. As of now, the FZ8 and Fazer8 will go on sale in Europe, followed by other markets. Each of the new models is available in three colors, including white, black and blue

American Chopper show runs out of gas - to be stopped!

One of the best custom bike building shows on earth - Orange Country Chopper's American Choppers will soon come to a dead stop. According to various reports, the main reason has been the constant fights between the three main guys - Paul Teutul Sr. and his sons, Paul Jr. and Mikey. Infact, on a recent show, Paul Jr went onto to argue that the success of the show was due to him, to which, obviously, Teutul Sr reacted strongly. The fight didnt end there and it seems, Jr has even sued his own dad.

The last show runs on this Thursday. I believe there will be millions out there who are gonna miss the show for - the bikes, the men, the fights, the real thing!

After the successful release of the Bimota DB8, the company recently unveiled the new HB4 Moto2 race bike.

The Bimota HB4 Moto2 is known for its chassis design and ofcourse its sexy Italian looks. It featurs a steel and cast magnesium trellis frame around the Honda motor. The chassis also features an adjustable steering head and engine mounts system.
Suspension comes from Paioli up front, and Öhlins in the back. Brembos do the duty of stopping the bike!

Motorcycle air-conditioner. No more sweating in summers!

In countries like India, where temperatures cross 40 degrees easily in summers, we bikers often find it difficult to go out for a ride. However, EntroSys has developed a unique A/C for motorcyclists. No, I am not kidding. Check out this video yourself.

Though it seems to work nicely, i would want to see a system wherein the pipe connects to the air-vest which also has full sleeves to keep our arms cool. And later, can we have an air-pant too please? :-D

Note: The system works as a heater too for winter riding!

2010 Harley Davidson Forty-Eight 48 revealed

Times haven't been very good for Harley Davidson recently. For example, the company is holding an auction for Buell's assets on the 28th of January 2010. However, in the middle of all this comes a little surprise from H-D. They have revealed the 2010 Forty-Eight or as well call it, the H-D 48.
The Forty Eight is based on the 1200 Platform and gets the 48 name from the 1948 H-D S-model, which was the first bike to have a peanut shaped fuel tank.

The H-D 48 sits low, has a chopped seat and yes, the small tank holds only 2.1 gallons of fuel! The 48 goes on sale just under US$11k.

The cat is finally out of the bag! Honda has unveiled one of its most awaited motorcycles till date, the 2010 Honda VFR1200F. Here are the official pictures of the three different colors along with a few action shots as well.

Remember we told you about the Hypermotard 796 on 17th September (READ). The Italian motorcycle maker has finally launched the bike at a MSRP of $9995 - that is a cool $5000 less than its bigger sibling.

The engine is air-cooled, sports two valves per cylinder and puts out 81 horsepower and 56 lb-ft of torque. The bike also sports an APTC clutch and a single-sided swingarm along with redesigned top and bottom fork clamps and a revised steel trellis frame. The Ducati Hypermotard 796 will be sold in Ducati red and matte black in addition to the cool matte white scheme.

Hero Honda Karizma ZMR launched

Yet another Hero Honda rolls in.
The world's biggest manufacuturer of two-wheelers, Hero Honda rolled out a new upgrade of the 223cc Karizma today. Called the ZMR, the bike has been priced at Rs 91,000 (USD 1900) and will come with features like a full body cowl and fuel injection.

The power has gone up slightly to 17.8PS, though there wont be a much of a difference in the performance.

Didnt we all love the Ducati Hypermotard 1100? The only issue with that was the high price - a bike not meant for everyone. But Ducati seems to have an answer in the form of the new 2010 Hypermotard 796. And this one is coming soon! No, this one wont really be a less radical Hypermotard, rather a more affordable one. Just like the current Hypermotard is based around the Monster 1100, this one too be made around the smaller Monster 696. There is every possibility though that the Ducati Hypermotard 796 might use a modified current 696 unit.

New R1 LE gets Rossi’s Fiat Yamaha MotoGP team graphics; R6 gets minor updates to boost power
Yamaha Motor Corp USA released info on its new ’10 models today, with an R1 LE model in Valentino Rossi/Fiat Yamaha MotoGP graphics heading the list. The new livery is basically the same as the MotoGP team bikes, with sponsor logos, Rossi’s famous “46” number on the nose fairing, and “The Doctor” stickers on the windscreen; there is also a replica of Rossi’s signature on top of the fuel tank. Mechanically, however, the R1 LE is identical to the standard model—so that means no Ohlins suspension and forged aluminum wheels as with the previous R1 LE edition in ’06. But the flip side to that omission is that the price is much more reasonable, with the ’10 R1 LE listing for $14,500. The standard model will be available in Raven, Pearl White, and Team Yamaha Blue/White motifs with a starting MSRP of $13,290.

According to Motorcycle News, Ducati will be introducing a new 1198R Biposto along with the highly-anticipated rival to the BMW R1200GS – as official documents unearthed by MCN can reveal.

The 1998R Biposto will join the 1198 and 1198S along with the 1098R, which confusingly, is already an 1198cc engine. The GS rival – which might be called the Strada Aperta – will be seen at Milan in two versions, the standard bike and a higher spec S.

Everyone is against you. They call you a moron, call you nuts, tell you to back off. But you dont. You have a plan, a surprise, a dream.
You try to finish work early and leave asap. The bike has already been filled, your stuff already packed. You cant tell your parents who are back home waiting for your call each night, for they will whip your ass if they come to know. You call them early, making an excuse that you will be out till late night with friends.
You hit the highway (NH4) as the sun is about to go down. The first few kilometers are taken easily, but soon, the right wrist does what it does best. The kilometers fly past, the sun vanishes into the horizon and soon, you are left to the mercy of your headlight. 2 hours pass by, but you dont wanna take a break. For the destination is still hundred of kilometers away. Five hours and close to 400km later, the pain from your stone (bladder) is too much to bear. You enter a city, search for the cheapest hotel and crash.
Before sun-rise you are back on the highway. A lot has to be covered. You gun for it, and in the process miss the turn off for NH17. Backtracking, you are finally on the single lane highway to Ankola (NH17). The sun is out, but its raining and you cant do anything. You skip breakfast, just refill the bike and carry on. Your destination is just a couple of hours away. Butt is aching, stomach is complaining. But you dont stop.

Finally you hit the city. Language is a big issue and you take your time finding your destination. You finally arrive, after 850odd kilometers. Tired, hungry, sleepy. You make a call, and she answers. Her voice never sounded so sweet. You tell her to come down. The moments she sees you, tears fill your eyes. She jumps in joy, runs towards you and hugs you. Her warmth sheds apart all the cold you had from riding wet. But soon, she scolds you for riding all the way from Pune to Mangalore. All you can say, 'coz I love you'

Now Suzuki is gearing up to launch a smaller variant of the B-King that it will call the GSR 250. Remember the smaller GSR750 we told you about? It seems Suzuki is very serious on extending its GSR range to smaller bikes as well.

The pictures were leaked onto www.motorcyclenews.com and they claim these to be the final images. The engine is said to be a completely new 250cc V-twin, that the company might use in others bikes later on - a cruiser may be?

According to various Internet sources, mainly www.motorevue.com, Kawasaki has made major changes to the Z100 for 2010. Power will come from a detune ZX-10R motor which means more fun! The 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 will also have a stronger, race-style chassis for improved handling and higher quality suspension. The bike will be launched early next year.

Ducati Strada Aperta : The GS killer!

As we get closer to the unveiling of Ducait’s Multistrada replacement in Novemeber, the spy shots of the “BMW GS killer” are becoming more apparent. After trolling the interwebernet, www.asphaltandrubber.com found two more shots of the upcoming Ducati Strada Aperta bike. The pics reveal some more detail about what the Strada Aperta (no word if that’s the official name, but it does seem to keep coming up) will look like from the side and front.
One of the photos seems to be from the same day of two other photos we showed you earlier this month, while this second photo appears to be a blur of the new bike in white livery, and minus masking tape. Both shots give us some idea of how the bike will look, and we’re liking it more and more.

As per Autobloggreen.com Yamaha has filed patents for a new series of motorcycle-size turbodiesel engines in both inline-four and twin-cylinder configurations. Previously, established brands have not even so much as expressed an interest in diesel engines.

Yamaha would have to contend with packaging issues in placing a diesel engine in a motorcycle chassis as well as the physical size of an engine that’s made to withstand the high pressures and torque inherent in a compression ignition engine. Yamaha’s patents seek to set an arrangement of components particularly the intercooler, which is placed atop the engine under a “dummy tank” with the actual fuel tank moved below the bike’s saddle. So, are we ready to cruise on open American roads in the coming few years astride a turbo-diesel Yamaha big bore bike? Feel free to share!

First the spy pics, then the sketches and now the real bike. Motorcycle News has revealed the pictures of Honda VFR1200T and we think it looks great!

This V4 engined bike will replace the Pan European model and when launched will be the most technologically-advanced bike in the world.

The bike looks absolutely amazing regardless of the color schemes, but these do help in forming a better opinion of what Honda will create and so encourage people to mention what they think about what they see. So, what do you think about the 2010 Honda VRF1200T?

2010 Suzuki GSR750 revealed

Lot of pictures have been floating around the net, which was first let out by the good guys at www.motorevue.com. The new 2010 750cc naked bike from Suzuki, the GSR750 might very well complement the existing GSR600 that has been well accepted in the market.

Suzuki is believed to be using the same mill found in the GSX-R750 : ofcourse it will be retuned (detuned) to give it more low and mid range boost. The 2010 Suzuki GSR750 will compete with the likes of the Kawasaki Z750 in markets. Bikers from USA however will be disappointed to know that this bike might not make it there. Even the GSR600 has primarily been a bike for the European and Asian markets. What do u have to say about this? Feel free to comment

While details are still sketchy, but here are a few pointers on the 2011 Honda Goldwing that is believed to be out sooner than expected

- The engine capacity is likely to jump from 1800cc to 2000cc
- It will retain its horizontally-opposed six cylinder layout
- The engine will now have both twin overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder
- According to www.gizmag.com, the bike is shaping as a technology showcase with Honda's variable cylinder management, a beefed-up Human Friendly transmission, airbag system, ABS braking, GPS, electronic traction control, Bluetooth phone integration and an iPod compatible sound system.

Honda XRE300 details : replaces XR250

We told you about the new 300cc CB300R that Honda has launched to replace the 250cc Twister in Brazil HERE. Going a step further, Honda is also aiming at replacing the 250cc Enduro bike, the XR250 Tornado with this XRE 300 bike soon.

The XRE 300 will use the same engine as the CB300R which means the 292cc engine developing around 26.5 bhp will made good use of. Such small capacity Enduro bikes make a lot of sense in countries like Brazil, and ofcourse, we would love to have it here in India as well!

Honda CB300R : Coming to India?

Honda has recently replaced the 250cc Twister with a new 300cc model called the CB300R. The launch in Brazil took place a few days back and is already a hot topic on various forums across India. The point is, will HMSI (Honda Motorcycle Scooter India Ltd) go ahead and get the bike here too?
Honda currently sells both scooters and bikes (along with superbikes) in India but the largest capacity bike made locally is the 150cc Unicorn. The CB300R surely fits the bill for India :
- Single cylinder
- 292cc
- 26.5 bhp
- 27.5 Nm of torque

It looks like a scaled down CB1000R too. If HMSI makes this bike locally with a few imported components, they can still price it around the Rs 1 to 1.2 lakh mark, which needless to say, makes it a fantastic buy for India!

Manali - Leh road all set to open

The roads leading to the worlds highest motorable pass, Khardung la pass are all set to get open soon.
According to sources, army is allowing a limited number of vehicles to cross over to Rohtang. We believe the complete route will be open to public traffic very soon.

Khardung la pass, located at an altitude of around 18380 feet is around 51km / 2hours from Leh. The Manali-Leh route, 475km, is often considered one of the toughest motorcycling routes in the world.

I did the same route and then some more last year.

Was just surfing through my list of favourite motorcyling website, when i read this interesting news on Faster and Faster
According to the above mentioned website, Yamaha France (see) is offering four (yes, just FOUR) MotoGP replicas of the YZF-R1. These will be sold in Rossi and Lorenzo colors and the sticker price is, well, USD 26,600!! The price is quite steep but you do get a Rossi / Lorenzo replica helmet free as well. Worth it? Well, I would say rather go in for a Busa and a GSX-R750!

Yamaha has just confirmed that the popular Fazer 250, that is being in many countries abroad will also be launched in the UK market as the YBR 250. Yamaha already sells the smaller YBR 125 and the this bigger 250 will prove to be a success as well.
The YBR 250 will make around 21bhp with 20.5Nm of torque : enough for city commutes and the occasional highway run. The bike has an estimated top speed of around 85mph / 136km/h.

Minerva Motor Indonesia (MMI) : Minerva Sachs 250R

PT Minerva Motor Indonesia (MMI) has started marketing three models sport: SuperMoto, naked, and sport (fairing). Out of these, the Minerva Sachs 250R caught our attention. The tie up is with Megelli motors but for the 250cc engine, MMI seems to have picked up the mill from Sachs but made in Thailand.
Details are still sketchy, however, this is what we could gather about the bike, Minerva Sachs 250:

Engine : SOHC, air cooled
CC : 247
Max Power : 20.5 bhp @ 8000 rpm
Max Torque : 18Nm @ 6000 rpm
Gearbox : 5-speed

The Minerva Sachs 250 sells for around USD 2700, which is superb considering it looks like a full fledged racing bike!

125cc? Just that? Will the bike even hit 75mph / 120kmh?
Well, yes. There are extra-ordinary small capacity bikes out there that not only look smashing but also perform decently well. Here is our take on the Best 125cc bikes out there (in alphabetic order mind you)

1. APRILIA RS 125

Engine: 125cc
Power: 15bhp (restricted
Power: 30bhp (de-restricted)
Top speed: around 75mph for 15bhp
Top speed: around 95mph for 33bhp
Cost: £3799 (UK)

So, we thought 125cc bikes were boring? Get hold of the Aprilia 125 and de-restrict it, freeing all the 33 horses, and 125cc biking will never be the same again.

The Aprilia RS125 has remained the best fun 125cc bike for ages now. It was first launched way back in '95 and still remains an average teenagers' dream bike. Looks like a biggie, handles like a track bike and the engine can be de-restricted to 30bhp which means it can tease cars on the road as well! It’s a tad expensive to buy and run thanks to pricey two-stroke motorcycle oil, but, if you can afford it, the Aprilia RS125 is worth every penny.

2. APRILIA TUONO 125

Engine: 125cc
Power: 14bhp
Top speed: 81mph / 130kmh
Cost: £3499 (UK)

Again a 2-stroke screamer, the Tuono 125 is Slightly cheaper than the RS 125 and has changes like a nose fairing and flat handle bars. This bike, just like the RS 125 can also be de-restricted. And then ladies and gentlemen, the real fun begins!

3. CAGIVA MITO SP 525

Engine: 125cc
Power: 14.7bhp
Top speed: 81mph / 130kmh
Cost: £3499 (UK)

The third 125cc 2-stroke bike out here, we feel the Mito is also the best looking of the lot. The Cagiva Mito SP525 is essentially the long-running two-stroke Cagiva Mito 125 brought up to date in every area and then dressed in bodywork to honour John Koscinski’s 500GP efforts onboard the Cagiva V594 circa 1994. In unrestricted form its claimed 30bhp (approx) performance means anyone on their two-year licence probation period can make use of its sporty nature. Effectively two bikes for one price with a lot of fun.

4. DERBI GPR 125

Engine: 125cc
Power: 30bhp
Top speed: 90mph / 144kmh
Cost: £3599 (UK)

The Derbi GPR125 is almost as good looking as the Mito actually. You could easily mistake it for a baby Ducati or MV Agusta motorcycle. The Derbi GPR125 also goes very well (de-restricted of course ) and handles just like a racing motorcycle, with firm suspension and a substantial 300mm front disc brake. The Derbi GPR125 is a teenage dream on wheels. The 2-stroke mill can pump out 30 ponnies which means it easy to see 90mph or 145km/h on the speedometer.

5. YAMAHA YZF-R125

Engine: 125cc
Power: 14.6bhp
Top speed: 75mph / 120kmh
Cost: £2999 (UK)
